The AL East is one of the most competitive divisions in the MLB. It is packed with talent from every team, but a few teams stand out. Those teams are the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays.
The Rays are the best team in the division and are on a historic run. As I write this, they are 13-0 and cannot lose. Their lineup is simply gelling and crushing the ball, as a result. Tampa has five solid hitters in Wander Franco, Randy Arozarena, Yandy Diaz, Isaac Paredes, and Brandon Lowe.
Everyone knows about Arozarena’s skills at the plate, but the other four are all formidable hitters. Tampa also has four reliable pitchers in Shane McClanahan, Tyler Glasnow, Jeffrey Springs, and Drew Rasmussen. Glasnow and Springs are injured but will key pieces for the Rays when they return. I expect Tampa to win this division.
Yankees +125
Blue Jays +205
Rays +340
Red Sox +1500
Orioles +2500
The Yankees always have a decent roster and are always Playoff contenders. This year is no different. New York has three power hitters in Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo.
They also have other strong hitters in Gleyber Torres, Oswaldo Cabrera, DJ LeMahieu, and Frenchy Cordero. This lineup is not as good as the Rays’ lineup, but their first six hitters cannot be taken lightly.
The Yankees also have a stud of an ace in Gerrit Cole and good #2 and #3 pitchers in Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes. Rodon is yet to play this season but will return to form when healthy.
Team | Wins | Losses |
---|---|---|
New York Yankees | 95 | 67 |
Toronto Blue Jays | 93 | 69 |
Tampa Bay Rays | 85 | 77 |
Baltimore Orioles | 84 | 78 |
Boston Red Sox | 75 | 87 |
The Blue Jays’ lineup has been phenomenal this season. Bo Bichette continues to get on base, Matt Chapman is hitting nearly .500, George Springer is hitting well, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., is hitting over .400.
Some of these players’ numbers will drop as the season progresses, but overall, Toronto is hitting quite well. The Blue Jay’s rotation is not as strong as their lineup, but Kevin Gausman, Alek Manoah, and Chris Bassitt make an impressive 1-2-3 punch for them. Toronto will make the Playoffs via a Wild Card spot.
The Rays are annihilating every opponent in their path with 10 of their wins being decided by four or more runs.
They are both the real deal this season and poised to commit these types of atrocities to the AL East for some years to come. @OConnellNYDNhttps://t.co/ULvAk5DIvY
