Jayden Daniels Jumps Heisman Odds Following PAC-12 Title Game | News Article by squatchpicks.com

With all of the conference championship games in the rear view, the focus now shifts to in season awards and the Heisman is at the top of everybody’s mind. Going into the season, names such as Caleb Williams, Jordan Travis, and Drake Maye took the odds boards by storm, however, it wasn’t long after that they were overtaken by Michael Penix Jr. of Washington and Bo Nix from Oregon.

Penix and Nix have been trading blows all season in the Pac-12 with Penix throwing for 4,218 yards and 33 touchdowns with nine interceptions while Nix went for 4,145 yards through the air and 40 touchdowns while only throwing three interceptions.

Both of them really came to light after their first meeting in the regular season where Penix showed out for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns while Penix had 337 yards and two touchdowns.

Both of their teams, Washington and Oregon have now finished the regular season with Washington finishing as the #2 ranked team and in the playoffs and Oregon as the #8 team in the country following the Pac-12 title game.

Going into the Paz-12 championship, both of them were one and two on the odds board to win the Heisman, however, after uncharacteristic outings from both of them which led to a Washington conference title, a new name has jumped them both with the shortest odds.

Jayden Daniels from LSU is not the extremely heavy favorite to win the Heisman Trophy with -1100 odds. Daniels was pretty much an afterthought until after conference championship week. He had a career year across the board having thrown for 3,812 yards, 40 passing touchdowns, and a 95.7 QBR which is the highest in the country. He also got a ton of work on the ground running for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Name School Odds
Jayden Daniels LSU -1100
Bo Nix Oregon 1400
Michael Penix Jr. Washington +1200

Daniels has also helped lead LSU to an incredible season in which they went 9-3 in the regular season which includes five games of 4 passing touchdowns and 300 passing yards.

Looking back to each of their odds in the preseason, Penix opened with the shortest odds of the three at 1200 and was even favored at -140 odds at one point during the season. Nix opened up right behind him at 1400 odds and moved up to 3000 mid season before crashing down to -170 towards the end of the year.

Daniels came in with the highest odds of the three at 1800 and has risen up to 3000 for the majority of the season. During the final five games of the season is when oddsmakers began shortening his odds until he was favored.
