The Jack Adams Award is given to the best coach in the NHL. It is a hard award to predict because a newcomer could make a huge impact, or a veteran coach could continue leading his team to success.
The Vegas Golden Knights’ Bruce Cassidy has the best odds to win the Jack Adams at 700. This is unsurprising, as the Golden Knights surprised the NHL and won their second Stanley Cup. Cassidy had an incredible first season as the head coach of the Golden Knights and led them to a first-place finish in the Pacific Division.
This year has been no different; Vegas is 11-0-1 and scoring an absurd 3.92 goals per game. However, that is not all. The Golden Knights are also dominating on the defensive end and only allowing 2.00 goals per game. If the Golden Knights continue to perform at this level, I expect Cassidy to win the Jack Adams once again.
The Vancouver Canucks’ Rick Tocchet has the second-best odds to win this award at 1000. Tocchet was named the Canucks’ head coach a little over halfway through last season, and the team performed well under him. In 36 games, Vancouver went 20-12-4 and turned a corner.
The Canucks took that momentum into this season and are 8-2-1 in 11 games. If the Canucks have a strong regular season and make a deep Playoff run, Tocchet will have an excellent chance to bag himself to bag this award.
The New York Rangers’ Peter Laviolette has the third-best odds at 1200. Laviolette has a storied career as a head coach and will be heading the Rangers for the first time after coaching the Washington Capitals for three seasons.
I am a bit perplexed by Laviolette’s odds. The Rangers are dominating this season, but Laviolette coached a Capitals team to a sixth-place finish in the Metropolitan Division last season. The Massachusetts native is a solid coach, but I do not see the Rangers staying this hot.
I would bet on Rick Tocchet to win the Jack Adams. He has already changed the Canucks’ culture for the better and created a winning team. That should be enough to win him the award.
“They came out firing and Demko was all-world for us. In about 15 minutes we were under siege, Demmer does Demmer things. He was incredible. Then we found our game.”
